Ideas are the centerpiece of this site because ideas are the foundation of all we do. Good ideas create good results. Bad ideas create useful lessons. Ideas fraught with possibility create opportunities. Ideas fraught with evil destroy everything.
We humans have been on this planet for many tens of thousands of years. For at least 30,000 of those years, we have lived in groups with organized systems of barter and trade. We have had art, accounting, commerce, business, and law for all those years. At first we had crude representations, simple counting tools, strict barter exchange, limited horizons, and oral traditions. But from these ideas we found strength. So we pursued education for ourselves individually, for our families, and for our various communities. We learned more, and we grew stronger.
As we grew in strength we recognized that ideas were important in their own right. We began to honor those who came up with better ideas. Hunters with better methods were chosen to lead the hunts. Gatherers who learned to cultivate food were given a special place in society. Those who realized that grains and other foods could be stored for lean times were able to keep their villages and cities strong while others grew weak or died. Our myths, our legends, our fables are replete with stories of cleverness, wisdom, and success based on thoughtfulness.
If we are to reach the stars, it will be because we have better ideas. We of the Houston Space Society invite you to consider some of our ideas, contribute your own, and grow stronger with us.
