Bronx Cheers
"Fundamentally, there are only two ways of coordinating the economic activities of millions. One is central direction involving the use of coercion -- the technique of the army and of the modern totalitarian state. The other is voluntary cooperation of individuals -- the technique of the marketplace."
- Milton Friedman, Capitalism and Freedom, 1962.

The 1997 Recipients of Our
Raspberry Moon
for
Incredible Idiocy
and Standing in the Way
of the Pursuit of Space Commerce
Space Settlement
and Space Development
|
Rules: Rule 1. There are no rules. Rule 2. Houston Space Society, Inc., names the recipients of its Raspberries from amongst government agencies, companies and organizations which show incredible idiocy and a tendency to stand in the way of the pursuit of space commerce, space settlement, and space development. The purpose of the awards is to "Bronx Cheer" or Raspberry the greatest irritants in the space arena. Thus far, the awards are non-compensatory, meaning we don't give money to the winners. We've been thinking about raising money to pay these entities to go AWAY! Government agencies, their minions, and their sycophants are always given preference. The taint of socialistic activities or concepts is an automatic winning characteristic. Runners up are often too close to call, and are listed alphabetically by category.
The Houston Space Society, Inc., its affiliates, members, and related organizations are disqualified from winning.
